Me and my husband had been thinking either to enrol our children in Slovene kindergarten or in foreigner. Because we believe that the knowledge of foreign language is a great added value, at the end, we decided to enrol them in French kindergarten in Ljubljana. The fear that this would be a problem for them, quickly vanished. Our son already finished his first year of French primary school with great success, and our daughter is going from  kindergarten to primary school this autumn. They both speak French well. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it when they will grow up. But with great regret, I am following the discriminatory and disparaging attitude of Slovene state institutions that deny our little citizens their rights for equal financing of basic schooling. With this condition, parents are being denied for their right to choose. I am convinced that this is a violation of the constitutional right, since our children are entitled to the same amount of money for basic schooling (primary and elementary level) as the State would give them if being in public school. For the extra standard I will happily pay more. I have to point out also the fact that Slovene state has confirmed the adequacy of the program of French school in Ljubljana, but regardless of that, we the parents have to pay entire tuition fees by ourselves. Because of that, my children are one of the few in Slovenia who do not receive one cent for primary and elementary education from the Slovene state. Given that all languages are equal in the EU, State excuse, that teaching language must be
Slovene, can not be valid. Responsible people for this situation should imagine what kind of injustice they are doing to their own citizens and correct it as soon as possible.
